Newcrest expects production from Gosowong underground to commence 2009

Australian mining firm Newcrest Mining Limited expects to be able to exploit additional reserves at its Halmahera mine in North Maluku starting mid 2009 to enable the company to keep production from the mine above 300,000 ounces per year.
The company said in its Monday presentation that development of Gosowong extension would be started by the end of 2007. The Gosowong extension has mineral resource of 900,000 ounce of gold.
The company with Gosowong extension becoming onstream in 2009, production from Halmahera could be sustained at 300,000 ounces of gold PA for six years.
Currently, Halmahera is producing gold from Kencana underground mine. (alex)
