Newcrest reopens RI unit

Tuesday, February 8 2000 - 04:00 AM WIB

Australia's Newcrest Mining Ltd said on Monday it had resumed operations at its Gosowong gold mine in Halamahera island, Maluku.

The company's operation was disrupted for seven days after communal unrest racked the island, forcing the company to evacuate 300 workers to the North Sulawesi provincial capital of Manado. (*)
