Newcrest reports lower gold production from N. Maluku mine

Australian miner Newcrest Mining Limited reported on Thursday that production from its Gosowong mine in Halmahera island, North Maluku reached 88,854 ounces in October-December 2007 quarter, lower than previous quarter?s production of 105,355 ounces.
The decrease in production was due to reduction of ore processed.
The company also reported the death of one of contractor?s worker in Gosowong on October 23, 2007 on uncontrolled fall in the underground decline. Another workers was also injured in the rock fall.(alex)
