Australian gold miner Newcrest Mining Ltd said on Monday its Gosowong mine in Halmahera in North Maluku produced 52,319oz of gold in its third quarter which ends in March.
The company said mining of high grade in Gosowong had ceased and processing of this material will be completed by May. Meanwhile, processing of lower grade stockpiled material will commence in the June quarter and production will fall accordingly.
Newcrest added that it is awaiting response from the government over its application for license to mine gold in Toguraci, a couple of kilometers from Gosowong.
Toguraci is located in a protected forest area where open pit mining is legally banned. (leo)
