Newmont called on to disseminate information on its technology

The North Sulawesi provincial administration on gold mining company PT Newmont Minahasa Raya to disseminate information to the public that it was using environmentally sound technology at its gold mine in the province.

Governor AJ Sondakh said although the company was going to close its mine in 2003, Newmont still needs to disseminate information about its technology to change the public's perception that it had caused damage on the local environment.

"Early next year at the latest, Newmont has to start disseminating information to the public about the type of environmentally sound technology that it is using.

"This is aimed at dismissing suspicions that the company had polluted environment in North Sulawesi," Sondakh said. (*)
