Newmont cuts Batu Hijau 2006 production on geo-technical instability

US top gold miner Newmont Mining Corp. announced on Thursday that it was revising its mine operating plan at its Batu Hijau operation in Sumbawa island, West Nusa Tenggara to address recurring geotechnical instability of the operation's east pit wall.
?Preliminary estimates are that approximately 45 million equity pounds of copper and 60,000 equity ounces of gold production from Batu Hijau will be deferred into subsequent years,? said the company in a statement.
The company produced 315 million equity pounds of copper from Batu Hijau and sold 315,000 ounces of equity gold in 2005.
Newmont has 52.88 percent interest in Batu Hijau mine. (alex)
