Newmont extends N. Sulawesi minelife

US gold miner Newmont Corp. said it would still continue to process ore from stockpile in its North Sulawesi mine until the first half of next year. Newmont originally planned to cease entire mining operations in Minahasa next month.
“Minahasa will still continue to process ore from stockpile until mid-2004,” said Newmont Pacific Nusantara spokesperson Heru Hardono on Thursday. Newmont originally planned to cease the entire mining operations this year.
Heru did not say the planned production planned rate for the rest of the mine’s life.
Minahasa mine stopped mining operations in 2001, but still continue to process ore from the stockpile.(godang)
