Newmont launches mobile library in Nusa Tenggara

Copper and gold mining firm PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) said on Thursday it had launched a mobile library as a part of its community development program in West Nusa Tenggara.

PTNNT said the mobile library equipped with television and video capabilities, over 350 different books, and also provides a tool to communicate directly with the villagers regarding operations and issues of interest.

In the first two weeks, 200 members were recorded to have used this facility actively. Until late September, the library has more than 1190 members, PTNNT said in a statement.

?The students of Elementary School No. 2 in Sekongkang are very enthusiastic. They come to the library themselves, without being forced by their teachers,? said M. Nawawi, the principal of the school.

PTNNT, one of Indonesia?s major copper and gold miners, is majority owned by U.S. mining giant Newmont Mining Corporation, while other shareholders are Sumitomo Corporation of Japan and an Indonesian company, PT Pukuafu Indah. (robert)
