Newmont Minahasa expected to meet local’s aspiration in mine closure

Gold mining company PT Newmont Minahasa Raya (NMR) is expected to meet the aspiration of the local people in preparing for the closure of its gold mine site in Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Tuesday.

“I believe that with its international reputation, Newmont Minahasa will not leave a bad memory behind,” said Victor Milonda, the vice chairman of the North Sulawesi mining office.

The mining company has received approval from the ministry of energy and mineral resources to close its Minahasa gold mine beginning next year.

Victor said that the company should continue to provide environmental protection on its former mining site and its submarine dumping ground in accordance with the local demand. (*)
