Gold and copper giant PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NTT), a local subsidiary of US-based Newmont Mining Corp, has appointed Rachmat Makassau as the new President Director.
Rachmat, who previously held the position of General Manager for Social Responsibilities and Government Relations in the company, replaces Martiono Hadianto, who has decided to resign at the age of 70.
?Rachmat Makassau has been appointed to assume President Director, while the administration process is on going,? said NTT Spokesperson, Rubi Purnomo to Petromindo.com Friday. Rubi did not provide details as to why Martiono decided to step down at a time when the company, which operates the Batu Hijau mine in West Nusa Tenggara Province, is seeking to renew its export permits and struggling to meet the government?s requirement to build domestic smelter.
Rachmat has served at NTT for about 15 years after previously working for another mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia between 1994 and 1999.
