Newmont reports lower copper, gold output from Batu Hijau

Saturday, April 23 2011 - 01:44 AM WIB

US mining giant Newmont Mining Corp. reported on Thursday that copper and gold production from its Batu Hijau mine in Sumbawa island, West Nusa Tenggara decreased 42% and 39% respectively in the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same period of 2010.

The decrease is caused among others by lower throughput and lower grade of ore, the company said.

Gold and copper production during the first quarter at Batu Hijau were 46,000 ounces and 43 million pounds, respectively

The company expects gold production at Batu Hijau to reach approximately 110,000 to 140,000 ounces this year and copper production approximately 120 to 140 million pounds. (romel)
