Newmont?s employees to hold strike

Thousands of copper and gold miner PT. Newmont Nusa Tenggara's (NNT) workers plan to hold a strike from Aug. 2 to 10 to protest the management's refusal to pay overtime for 1,919 workers, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Friday.
?We have submitted the statement of labor strike today. Some 2,000 employees have confirmed their readiness to leave their work for one week. The number may be higher. We have 2,900 members,? NNT's labor union head Zaenuddin said.
According to him, during the strike, the employees will gather but do no activities at Townsite, Batu Hijau, Sumbawa Barat, West Nusa Tenggar province.
The strike is planned as a result of the action by NNT's management to take legal action to review a decision by the province's manpower and transmigration office requiring Newmont to pay overtime as much as Rp 126 billion. (*)
