Some 300 workers of copper and gold miner PT. Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) in Sumbawa island, West Nusa Tenggara went on strike since Wednesday, over overtime pay disputes
Despite the strike, said NNT spokesperson Kasan Mulyono, operations and production are thus far unaffected.
The first strike regarding the over time pay dispute was on February 2004, causing the company to stop operations for one day.
The dispute originated from the difference of interpretation over Ministry of Manpower?s decree regarding overtime pay and a pay schedule for the four-days-on/four-days-off work routine. The workers think that NNT should pay them more.
NNT, a unit of US gold giant Newmont Mining Corp. produces some 650 million pounds of copper and 600,000 ounces of gold annually. (godang)
