Newmont's security guard to sue Newmont's contractor

A former security of guard of copper and gold mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara planned to sue the company which supply them to the copper and gold mining company for laying them off in contravention with the existing procedures, Lombok Post reported.

Amir, one of the sacked security guards, said he would pursue on the litigation plans against PT Nawaksara Perkasa Nusantara despite the fact that most of the former security guards had agreed to settle the dispute with the company.

Nawaksara promised to re-employ the security guards provided that they send new applications for jobs to the company.

The company made the promise to the security guards in a meeting arranged by Sumbawa regency's manpower office.

However, Amir insisted in the meeting he would pursue on his plan to sue the company, citing the violation of the existing procedures by the company in laying them off.

The security guards were laid off by the company following demonstrations held by them in May and December last year to demand better salaries. (*)
