Newmont's taxes, royalties reached Rp 2.29 trillion in 2007

Copper and gold miner PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) paid a total of Rp 2.29 trillion (1US$=9,305) in taxes and non-taxes payment including royalties to the government in 2007, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

The amount of the 2007 tax and non-tax payment rose by 76 percent from about Rp 1.3 trillion in 2006 thanks to a significant increase in the income tax payment of the company which operates a gold and copper mining area in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, said Malik Salim, the company's senior manager for external relations.

The corporate income taxes contributed about Rp 1.5 trillion in the tax and non-tax payment in 2007, which showed a significant increase from Rp 849 billion in the previous year, while the individual income taxes of the company's employees rose to Rp 170 billion from Rp 144 billion in 2006.

The company said that the royalty payment reached a total of Rp 160 billion last year which rose from Rp 144 billion in the previous year. (godang)
