NEWS RELEASE: Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. adds Robert J. Allison to its board of directors

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) announced today that Robert J. Allison, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, has been elected to its Board of Directors.
Mr. Allison, age 62, has led Anadarko, one of the world's largest independent oil and gas exploration and production companies, as CEO since 1979 and as Chairman and CEO since 1986. A native of Evanston, Illinois, he is a member of the Board of Directors and the Policy and Executive Committees of the American Petroleum Institute; a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the U.S. Oil & Gas Association; and a member of the National Petroleum Council, the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Natural Gas Supply Association.
In addition to his leadership record in the oil and gas industry, Mr. Allison is active in civic and charity programs, including Spindletop, a youth charity organization; The University Cancer Foundation Board of Visitors of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center; the Board of Directors of the North Harris-Montgomery Community College District Foundation; past
Chairman of the Sam Houston Area Council, Boy Scouts of America; and the Spring Cypress Presbyterian Church.
Two former FCX executives, Ren? L. Latiolais and George A. Mealey, have retired from the Board of Directors. The FCX Board now has 14 members.
