A local non-governmental organization (NGO) called PMKB, which stands for the union of the Berau Regency families accused coal-mining firm PT Berau Coal in East Kalimantan of manipulating its coal production report to the Berau administration.
PMKB executive Hamzah Cerana said that Berau Coal should be transparent in reporting their monthly coal production so that the royalty paid to the Berau administration was worth with the damage in the local environment.
Hamzah was speaking in a meeting with the Berau administration, which was also attended by Berau Regent Masdjuni.
Berau president Jeffrey Mulyono denied the allegations made by the PMKB. Jeffrey said that Berau Coal had been reporting the true production level to the local administration. (*)
