NGO denies reports on gold mining in E. Sulawesi national park

A non-governmental organization in North Sulawesi has denied reports that it is mining gold in area national park, local daily Manado Post reported on Thursday.

Jerry Ch., chairman of the NGO locally known as PRDB, admitted on Wednesday his organization was only building new roads in Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park, using excavators owned by the organization.

?The roads are to support reforestation activities, and for improving security in the park,? Manado Post quoted Jerry as saying.

The national park, located near Kotamobagu, is believed to have gold reserve. (*)
