The local FPTK non-governmental organization (NGO) has filed a legal suit in a class action against 16 companies including several linked to oil and gas sector operating in Dumai and Duri areas in the Riau Province, the local Riau Post daily reported.
The 16 companies included oil and gas service companies PT Halliburton, PT Schlumbeger, and PT Bormindo.
The NGO accused the 16 companies of discriminating their employees, providing better treatment to foreign staffs.
The NGO also said that local staffs had been paid below the minimum salary standard, and the company failed to provide minimum safety working condition for their workers.
The NGO said that the 16 companies had violated the convention of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
The court hearing of the class action against the 16 companies was supposed to start on Wednesday, but it was delayed into end of this month because some representatives of the companies failed to show up due to the lack of information about the court schedule.(*)
