Niko faces human resources obstacle in Papua deepwater project

Canadian oil and gas company Niko Resources Ltd has encountered obstacle particularly in terms of the lack of skillful human resources in carrying deep water drilling work in Papua, according to an official at SKK Migas, the upstream oil and gas authority.
However, SKK Migas Head of Exploration Division, Nugrahani told Petromindo.com that Niko must be appreciated for its continuing offshore activities in Papua.
?Niko will drill 8 wells until 2014. It is said that the (main) obstacle is lack of human resources with skills in deep water drilling technology,? Nugrahani said Friday.
Niko has planned to drill three exploration wells this year. The Cikar-1 exploration well, located in the West Papua IV Block in eastern Indonesia, has been drilled to a depth of 14,431 feet and temporarily suspended after finding encouraging initial results.
The company has also drilled the Ajek-1 exploration well in the Kofiau Block, offshore Papua, and has found gas indication. It is currently in the process of drilling the Pananda-1 well.
?For 2013, there will be three 2D seismic activities at the Obi working area, southeast Seram, and in Aru working area,? said Arif Fanshuri, Head of Survey and Drilling Program at SKK Migas.
