South Sumatera Governor Syahrial Oesman said in Palembang on Friday that at least nine electricity projects, which were now under preparation, could be either suspended or reviewed due to the revocation of the electricity law.
He said that the electricity projects affected by the withdrawal of the electricity law included the construction of the Bangko Tengah steam power plant with a capacity of 4 x 600 MW in Muara Enim regency, the Bringin Teluk steam power plant with a capacity of 4 x 600 MW in Musi Rawas regency and the Bajarasari steam power plant with a capacity of 4 x 100 MW in Lahat Regency.
Other electricity projects, which could be either reviewed or suspended, include five steam power plants in Musi Banyuasin.
The Constitution Court recently revoked the Electricity Law for violating the spirit of the 1945 Constitution which stipulates the provision and distribution of the electricity in the country should be controlled by the government. The revoked law allowed the privatization in the provision, which according to the Constitution Court, violated the spirit of the Constitution. (*)
