Nine companies are taking part in the prequalification stage of a tender by state owned utility firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara to develop a compressed natural gas (CNG) marine transportation project.

The project will include the construction and operation of a CNG marine carrier, and loading & discharging facilities, which will be worth US$90 million.

The nine have been selected from a total of 33 interested parties, M. Suryadi Mardjoeki, PLN Head of Oil and Gas Fuel Division, told petromindo.com. He said that he hoped the winner could be announced in December.

The CNG vessel, with a capacity of 3 mmscfd to 6 mmscfd will transport gas from Terang Sirasun gas field in East Java to PLN?s gas-fired power plant in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, which will have a capacity of 6-10 megawatt.

In the tender, PLN offers two schemes of cooperation ? one is under build, operate and transfer (BOT) and build, operate and own (BOO).
