Nisco hopes to soon realize steel plant in RI

China?s steel maker Nisco hopes to be able to soon realize its stalled steel plant project in Medan, North Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.
Nisco Manager Zhang Yang told a media gathering in China?s Nanjing that the project, in partnership with North Sumatra company PT Gunung Gahapi Sakti, has been stalled since it was agreed in 2013 due to a number of problems including related to the joint venture agreement and power supply issue.
He said that Nisco plans to build a steel plant in Medan with capacity of 1 million tons per year. He added that the company also plans to develop another steel plant in Kalimantan, but declined to provide details.
Elsewhere, Zhang said that Nisco aims to double steel export to Indonesia to around 60,000 tons this year from 30,000 tons last year amid rising demand. (*)
