NMR disburses US$373 thousand for CD in 2000

Gold mining company PT Newmont Minahasa Raya (NMR) has disbursed around US$373 thousand last year for community development (CD) program in the Minahasa area in North Sulawesi, according to the local Manado Post daily.

The paper said that this was beyond the initial target of $333 thousand for 2000. The company is allocating a total of $1 million for community development program in three years between 2000-2002.

The paper quoted company spokesman Tri Hardjono as saying that the remainder would be equally disbursed in 2001 and 2002.

Tri also said that NMR had transferred around $1.5 million for the development of the Minahasa Raya Foundation between the company and the local Minahasa Regency administration.

The objective of the foundation is to provide support for the long term economic development of the Minahasa regency.(*)
