NNT's tailing pipeline leaks in West Nusa Tenggara

Gold mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT)'s tailing pipeline suffered a leakage at a depth of 75 meter under the sea, a week ago, the Investor Daily Indonesia newspaper reported in its Wednesday edition.
The leakage location was around 2.7 km from Senunu Bay coast or 700 m from the pipeline's origin. Everyday, NNT emits 110,000-120,000 tons waste into the sea waters
West Nusa Tenggara deputy governor HB Thamrin requested NNT to replace the damaged tailing pipeline. "Leakage in tailing pipeline is clearly a danger for the society because it affects fishermen, whose lives are dependent on the sea, if it was not replaced immediately," Thamrin said in Mataram on Tuesday.(*)
