NNT seeks copper export quota of 419,757 tons

Gold and copper giant PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) is seeking for an export quota of 419,757 tons of copper concentrates in application for a renewal of its current export permit, which is set to expire on November 23, Kontan reported on Tuesday.

Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Bambang Gatot Ariyono was quoted by the paper as saying that the ministry is still in the process of evaluating NNT?s request for a key letter of recommendation, required by the company to obtain the renewal of export permit from the Ministry of Trade. ?The volume (export quota) is the same (as in the current export permit,? he said.

The Ministry of Trade issues the export permit that is valid for six months. Under the current export permit, NNT?s has an export quota of 419,757 tons of copper concentrates.

As has been previously reported, NNT applied on October 10 a request with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for a letter of recommendation for an extension of the export permit. (*)
