The government is still assessing the gas deposit of the Suban-3 field in the Corridor Block onshore South Sumatra controlled by American energy firm ConocoPhillips.

Thus, there is no certainty yet whether the field has enough gas to supply the needs of state owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), Fathor Rahman, Marketing Division Head of oil and gas upstream regulatory body BPMIGAS, said on Thursday.

"We are still waiting for the completion of the assessment on the exploration results. Thus, it remains unclear how much Suban-3 will be able to supply," Fathor said.

The exploration results of Suban-3 is being assessed by the state-owned oil and gas research agency Lemigas, according to BPMIGAS's Planning Deputy Ahmad Luthfi.

In April this year, PGN's former CEO Soetikno said the firm was in talks with ConocoPhillips over supply of 250MMCFD of gas from the Suban-3 gas field.

PGN is eyeing 10-year supply starting 2011 from the field. Gas from Suban would be transmitted to West Java through PGN?s South Sumatra to West Java pipeline.

PGN's CEO Hendi Prio Santoso told Petromindo.com on Friday that PGN would use the Suban-3 gas to meet the needs of state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). (Godang)
