“This is a great achievement for our company with employees more than 6,600 workers,” said Phil Brumit, PTNNT’s general manager for operation.
Brumit said they would continue providing their workers with necessary trainings in 2004 including those meant for preventing accidents at their workplace.
Last October, PTNNT received the 2002 National Golden Safety trophy ‘Upakarti Aditama Group A’ award for its safety performance from the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources. The award is given to PTNNT for achieving the highest safety performance in regards to incident frequency and incident severity rates, and for achieving a zero fatal accident.
PTNNT, which is 56.25 percent-owned by U.S. mining giant Newmont Mining Corp, operates a large copper and gold mine in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara province with a total of 4,300 permanent employees. Sixty percent of the workers are from the province. (*)
