Noke Kiroyan appointed president at Newmont?s Indonesian unit

PT.Newmont Pacific Nusantara (NPN), a subsidiary of world?s top gold miner Newmont Mining Corp. announced on Wednesday the appointment of Noke Kiroyan as the company?s new president, replacing Richard Ness.

According to an announcement posted in local media, Noke will assume duties starting October 1, 2005.

Prior to his posting, Kiroyan is Chairman of Rio Tinto Indonesia.

NPN is a unit of Newmont, which gives management services to all Newmont?s units that are operating in Indonesia.

Newmont is currently facing huge legal battle over allegation that the company is polluting the Buyat Bay in North Sulawesi, where it had conducted gold mining operations.

Newmont operates a huge copper and gold mine in Sumbawa, West Nusatenggara and a gold project called Martabe in North Sumatra. (alex)
