The government?s non-tax revenue (PNBP) from the geothermal sector this year has exceeded target amid higher electricity production as total capacity of geothermal power plants expanded.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement obtained Thursday that the PNBP from the geothermal sector as per mid-November of this year reached Rp 928.55 billion, compared to the full-year target of Rp 671.26 billion.
?The high PNBP among others is caused by higher electricity production in 2017 and cost efficiency which increases revenue for the government,? the statement said.
The ministry said that installed geothermal power plant capacity has jumped to 1,808.5 MW as per October of this year compared to 1,403.5 MW in 2014. It said that according to the government?s roadmap, Indonesia is projected to become the world?s largest geothermal power producer in 2021 with installed capacity of 3,559.5 MW, surpassing the US.
Indonesia holds huge geothermal reserves of 17,507 MW, and resources of 11,073 MW, but only around 1,808 MW have been utilized for power production.
The government has taken various measures to help accelerate geothermal power plant development.
