Non-tax revenue from mining sector far behind target

The government has no plan yet to revise this year?s non-tax revenue from coal and mineral sector target of Rp 52.2 trillion, although revenue as of May only reached Rp 12.35 trillion, or 25.57 percent of the full-year target, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.
Director for Mineral Development and Management at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Adhi Wibowo was quoted by the paper as saying that any revision would only be made after first semester data on the non-tax revenue has come out.
Amid the lingering drop in coal price, there has been concern that the government may not be able to meet this year?s non-tax revenue target from the coal and mineral sector as coal accounts for about 80 percent of the target.
The government is currently evaluating a proposed increase in coal royalty to help achieve the non-tax revenue target, a proposal strongly protested by miners. (*)
