The Association of Pulou Basan Citizens (KWPB) in North Barito, Central Kalimantan will renew the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on community development with gold mining company PT Indo Muro Kencana (IMK), a subsidiary of Australian mining firm Aurora Gold.

Association general secretary Likon Yoseph said on Thursday in the provincial capital of Palangkaraya that the association would soon renew the MOU following the end of the 1998-2000 tenure of the association's board of executives.

"The signing of the MOU will be conducted in Puruk Cahu, according to the letter of invitation sent by IMK," Likon was quoted as saying by South Kalimantan-based daily Banjarmasin Post.

The renewed MOU did not only cover social and cultural affairs, but also infrastructure, education, transportation, labor agriculture, plantation, cattle breeding and cooperatives development, he said.

"The MOU contents will not only benefit KWPB and the company, but also people living around IMK's operation," he said.

Folk shows would be staged on the sidelines of the MOU signing to entertain the villagers and the workers of the company, he said. (*)
