North Barito needs more investment

The North Barito regency in South Kalimantan is seeking for investors to help develop the economy of the mineral-rich area, Regent Badaruddin was quoted by the Kompas daily as saying.

But he said that the new investment should be focused on the mining sector particularly gold, coal, and diamonds.

Badaruddin said that his office would not allow new investment in the forestry sector in a bid to help protect the environment.

He said that the forest was crucial to help avoid flood or preserve water during dry season.(*)
