A consortium of Malaysian and Indonesian companies will build a bio power plant in Binjai, North Sumatra, in cooperation with the local government, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.
The bio power plant which will use organic waste as its fuel will be built with investment of about US$300 million. The construction of the power plant which will have a capacity of between 100 MW and 200 MW is expected to begin by the end of this year.
"The cooperation agreement for the construction of the power plant was signed on June 15, and we hope the construction works could be begun this year," Syamsul Arifin, replacing mayor of Binjai town, said.
The power plant will be built near the town's garbage dumping area which produces about 60 tons of wastes a day. (*)
