The Norwegian government has delayed its plan of building a 350 megawatt (MW) hydroelectric generating plant in Jambi due to security reasons, Jambi governor Zulkifli Nurdin said over the weekend as reported by Koran Tempo daily.
The initial plan was that construction of the power plant would start in March 2003, Zulkifli told a gathering to celebrate Islam?s Idhul Fitri holiday.
The governor said the Bali bombing in October had incited the Norwegian government to delay the power project plan indefinitely. The project, called PLTA Kerinci Tirta Energi, is located in Kerinci regency, about 425 kilometers from the city of Jambi.
Norway?s state company Stat Kraft had agreed to invest in the US$1 billion project, Zulkifli said.
?The Norwegian ambassador in Jakarta had told me that their government had asked Stat Kraft officials to leave Indonesia after the Bali bombing,? Zulkifli said. (*)
