South African firm, the National Occupational Safety Association (NOSA), has secured a South African Rand 6 million (1 US$= 6.02853 Rand) training contract from PT Freeport Indonesia, a subsidiary of New Orleans-based copper and gold miner Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.

NOSA is to provide safety, health and environmental training at PT Freeport to a number of its 20,000 employees over a 3 year period.

The training will be conducted in Indonesia.

The NOSA system, which has been in operation at the mine since 2000, has had a positive impact on the mine's safety record, with PT Freeport currently boasting one of the best safety records in the entire Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. group, the company said. (denny)
