According to Novus, a comprehensive open hole logging and pressure testing programme was conducted and two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were performed.
No hydrocarbons flowed during DST-1 over the interval from 658m to 671m, but formation water with 0.5 litres of heavy crude (API gravity of 20.5 deg) was recovered.
DST-2 was conducted across the interval from 494m to 500m, in the lower part of an 11m thick gas bearing zone. It flowed 2.3 MMcfd gas at 630 psi through 24/64" choke size.
"Success in the Carat-1 well has resulted in a 100% success rate so far in our current exploration drilling campaign in Brantas. Like the discovery at Tanggulangin, these new gas reserves can be brought on stream quickly using Wunut facilities, as the Carat well is located just 8 km to the immediate south of Wunut field," said Bob Williams, Managing Director of Novus Petroleum Ltd in a statement.
He said, the preparations are underway to spud Grati-1, the final well which is located about 40km southeast from Wunut. It is in close proximity to a PLN (the state electricity authority) power plant that could provide a ready market for the gas. Alternatively, the regional gas grid of PGN (the national gas distribution company) passes within a few kilometers of the Grati prospect.
Novus holds 50 percent participating interest in Brantas PSC while Lapindo Brantas, the PSC operator which is controlled by local businessman Reiner Latif, holds the remaining 50 percent. (robert)
