Wellington-based independent oil, gas firm New Zealand Oil & Gas Limited (NZOG) has reported that planning for drilling of the PM-2 well in the Kisaran PSC is advancing, with a rig selected and approved.

In its quarterly update, the company said the PM-2 well is the first of two commitment wells in the block, in which NZOG has a 22.5 percent share. The block is operated by Pacific Oil & Gas, a Hong Kong company controlled by pulp and paper and palm oil tycoon Sukanto Tanoto.

Detailed planning should be concluded early in the next quarter, it added, and drilling is expected to commence in the following quarter.

Kisaran PSC is an onshore exploration permit in the central Sumatra basin.
