Harun Nuri, a councilor from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle at Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) district revealed that the district had a big oil reserves, including in the village of Tanjungmiring in Muarakuang subdistrict.
He noted that in Tanjungmiring only, there were around six active oil wells, with two crude oil stations. Oil reserves were also found in the villages of Tanjungbulan and Tanjungtiga.
Speaking at OKI Council's plenary session discussing the district budget, Harun expressed his optimism that the untapped potentials would bring about improved welfare to local people if there were investors interested in exploiting the potentials.
"As a representative of the people, I am tasked to help improve the people's welfare," he said, suggesting that the OKI administration open its eyes to the potentials and offer them to prospective investors.
He also called on the OKI administration to demand compensation from state oil and gas company Pertamina for its crude and gas piping lines that pass OKI areas, so that people in OKI whose lands were used for Pertamina piping would also benefit from the oil and gas proceeds. (*)
