The exports of oil and gas from a liquefied natural gas (LNG) Arun port in Lhokseumawe in Aceh reached US$1.9 billion in 2000, according to the head of North Aceh district's trade office, T. Zulfan.
Zulfan said on Thursday (Jan. 18) that the oil and gas from Arun was destined to Japan, South Korea and the United States.
Arun is home for a huge LNG plant belonging to Exxon Mobil and state oil and gas firm Pertamina. Besides gas, Exxon Mobil also exploits for oil in the restive Aceh province.
Besides oil and gas, the Arun port was also used to export non-oil and gas commodities from other parts of Aceh, mostly coffee, charcoal, and potato, with a total value of US$264 million in 2000. (*)
