Oil and gas companies based in East Kalimantan will receive protection from the local police under an agreement signed by the chief of the East Kalimantan regional police and oil and gas contractors including Total E&P Indonesie, Unocal Indonesia Company, Vico and Exspan on Monday.
Kaltim Post reported on Tuesday that the agreement followed the recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by BP Migas, the government’s agency in charge of oil and gas exploration and production, and the national police chief Da’I Bachtiar.
The chief of the East Kalimantan police Budi Utomo said with the agreement, all oil and gas companies in the province would receive a better protection from the local police. “With the agreement, the security coordination will be much easier,” he said following the signing of the agreement.
He said that he hoped the security cooperation would further bring a secure condition in all of the province’s oil and gas locations and their surrounding areas. (*)
