A number of investors have showed interest in exploring the oil and gas reserves in Karanggedang and Karangnangka in the district of Cipari, Banyumas, according to the head of the regency as reported by Suara Merdeka on Thursday.
Regent Herry Tabri said in Cilacap on Wednesday that the oil and gas reserves in the location was discovered by Robertson Research in 1978 but no exploration activities have been taken place since then.
According to Robertson's findings, the structure of the stones in the two villages, especially in the mountainous area, indicate that there are a good quality of oil and gas in the area. The same characters of stones are also found in deep sea locations near the two villages.
Based on the research made by Union Texas in 1981, the oil and gas reserves found in Karanggedang and Karangnangka are part of the hydrocarbon block found in Cipari and Gunung Wetan.
He said that he is sure that based on two surveys, the oil reserves might stretch out from Banyumas and Kebumen districts. (*)
