The office of oil drilling company PT Hitek Nusantara Drilling in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, was attacked and vandalized on Friday by dozens of local youth seeking jobs, the Kaltim Post daily reported.

The paper said that the attackers smashed windows and damaged two cars.

It added that Hitek president Gordon R. Burr was badly beaten.

The paper said that the attack was made because the company failed to honor its promise to provide work for some 86 people and did not provide clear explanation to the job seekers on why the promised job could not be realized.

The local police is currently handling the case.

The paper could not obtain any information from Burr.(*)
