Oil, gas companies to drill 270 exploration wells in 2012

Upstream oil and gas regulator BPMIGAS' Deputy Chairman Rudi Rubiandini said oil and gas production sharing contractors (PSCs) will drill up to 270 exploration wells in 2012, aiming at raising national oil and gas reserves.

Based on the oil and gas companies work plan and budget for 2012 (WP &B), the oil and gas companies will drill 953 development wells, 944 work-over wells and well services amounting to 17,408 wells, said Rudi.

The PSCs will also conduct 2D seismic with a target length of 15,200 kilometers and 3D seismic survey with a target area of 15,400 square kilometers.

The exploration activities will include drilling of 30 coal bed methane (CBM) exploration wells, 83 CBM core holes, dewatering of 2 CBM wells and 16 CBM pilot wells. (bernard)
