Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar said that flowmeters and its supporting facilities for oil and gas measurement must have already been installed in oil and gas fields in the country within the first six months of this year.

?According to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No 36/2016, installation of the flowmeters must be completed in six months. This means that before June all (flowmeters) must have been installed.? Arcandra said in a statement.

The statement said that the ministry has identified 200 oil and blocks that must install flowmeters.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan issued the ministerial regulation in December of last year on the requirement to install flowmeters in oil and gas working areas to allow the government to better monitor the country?s oil and gas production.

According to the regulation, upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas will be in charge in the provision and installation of the flowmeters and its supporting facilities.

The regulation stipulates that oil and gas contractors are obliged to provide access for the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of the monitoring system. The minister will provide administrative sanction to contractors failing to implement their obligations as recommended by SKK Migas.
