Oil, gas production exceeds target

Spokesman for the upstream oil and gas regulator (BPMIGAS), Elan Biantoro, said gas production averaged 8.662 million cubic feet per day, while oil production reached 905,000 barrels per day on average.
?The decline in oil output was compensated by the stronger gas production? Elan said on Thursday.
He said efforts to raise oil production had been facing many difficulties. There were at least 105 incidents that caused opportunity losses, such as unplanned shutdown, off taker problems and delayed projects.
?The production loss potential reached 37,850 bopd,? he said.
Unplanned shutdown usually takes place due to natural causes such as lrain, lightning, high waves and floods. They contributed to 10,000 barrels to the production loss potential, the largest contributor so far. Not to mention damages to the production facilities, which caused suspension of production and inflicted production loss potential amounting to 8,000 barrels per day.
Overlapping working fields exacerbated the problem as it forced the contractors to delay drilling works in a number of new and developed wells operated by Chevron Pacific Indonesia, Petrochina Jabung, Pertamina EP, and JOB Talisman Jambi Merang. Chevron could not drill 50 develop wells in Minas working field due to land acquisition problems.
?We will continue conducting tight monitoring so as to overcome the problems in the field,? Elan said.
Intensified supervision, he added, would be conducted on five major production sharing contractors including Chevron Pacific Indonesia, Pertamina EP, Total E&P Indonesie, Conocophillips and Kodeco Energy. Production of the contractors has each fallen up to 10,000 barrels bpd.
BPMIGAS and the contractors are working together to minimize the obstacles and non-technical problems. ?If everything goes smoothly, we are optimistic our production target and state revenue target from oil and gas will be met,? Elan said. (bernard)
