Oil production of four firms in East Kalimantan declines

The oil production of four foreign oil an gas companies operating in East Kalimantan has been in a declining trend since 1997, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

The four companies included Exspan Kalimantan, Total Indonesie, Vico Indonesia and Unocal Indonesia.

The paper said that based on data provided by the state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina, Exspan had a production level of 2.18 million barrel in 1997, dropped to 1.60 million barrel in 1998 and fell to 1.47 million barrel in 1999.

Total Indonesie in 1997 produced 21.23 million barrel, increased to 29.31 million barrel in 1998, but dropped to 24.11 million barrel in 1999.

Vico Indonesia produced 19.13 million barrel in 1997, declined to 15.08 million barrel in 1998, and to 12.02 million barrel in 1999.

Unocal Indonesia also saw a drop in production from 34.35 million barrel in 1997, to 25.84 million barrel in 1998, and to 22.21 million barrel in 1999.

The paper also said that in terms of gas production, the four companies also reported a decline in production.

Combined gas production totaled 1.95 billion barrel equivalent in 1997, and dropped to 1.12 billion barrel equivalent in 1998, but slightly increased to 1.22 billion in 1999.(*)
