Oil tanker explodes, two killed

Oil tanker ?Gemilang Perkasa? unexpectedly exploded in Pertamina?s oil terminal on Mahakam river, Samarinda, East Kalimatan on Friday, killing two of the crews of the landing craft tank (LCT), Media Indonesia reported Saturday.

?The ship exploded and caught fire after unloading oil in the terminal. The explosion could be heard within a redius of hundreds of meters from the location,? I Nyoman Mertha Dana of the local police office said.

The fire could be soon stopped so that it did not spread to the other parts of the ship, he said, adding that the local police office was still investigating the cause of the explosion.(*)
