Oiltanking starts construction of Banten deepwater fuel storage

The 600,000-cbm oil terminal will be equipped to most efficiently handle the full range of petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, fuel oil as well as jet fuel and LPG. It will serve as a distribution terminal to the Greater Jakarta markets as well as provide break of bulk services for Indonesia, Theo Pangraz, President Director of PT.Oil Tanking Merak (OTM), a subsidiary which will run the terminal said in Jakarta.
Pangraz said total investment is expected to amount to US$ 120 million.
The terminal will be equipped with three barges to transfer the fuel and 21 storage tanks with capacity ranging from 6,500 cbm to 28,000 cbm, he said.
The first phase of the terminal will be operational by the 2nd quarter of 2008 with initial capacity of 280,000 cbm, Pangraz`said. He added that Oiltanking planned to open storage facilities in East Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan once Merak construction completed in 2008.
An industry source who declined to be named told Petromindo.Com that Oiltanking is currently in talks with Shell, Petronas and Total to use the facility as their distribution base.
Oiltanking, a division of German Marquard & Bahls AG, is the second largest independent tank storage provider for petroleum products, chemicals and gases world-wide. (godang/denny)
