Ombilin fails to get new coal supplier, seeks coal at spot market

State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said on Thursday that coal supply tender for Ombilin 2x100-MW power plant in West Sumatra has failed to get a winner because all the bidders were offering a higher price than expected.

Ombilin tender chairman Indrajaya told Petromindo.Com that the bidders were requested too high price. ?They (the bidders) are requesting the price minimum at Rp 570,000 (1US$= 9,300) per tons. Meanwhile in spot market we can get the price at Rp 450,000 per tons? he said.

Earlier, the tender for Ombilin power plant has drawn eight bidders.

According to him, Ombilin decided to seek coal from spot market. Currently there are nine small coal miners, which located near the power plant to supply the coal. Each of them just has a capacity to produce of coal around 5,000-10,000 ton per month.

Ombilin?s coal requirement to generate the power plant is around 1,000 ton of coal per day. Ombilin needs a total of 2.94 million tons of coal over six years with a minimum calorific value of 6,000 kcal/kg GAR (Gross Air Receive).

Sumatra miners PT.Allied Indo Coal and PT.Bara Adipratama are currently major suppliers for the power plant. (denny)
